SINGAPORE NIGHT ZOO ............. and HOMEWARD JOURNEY

My last night in Singapore was really great; Rene and his family took me to

                                         SINGAPORE NIGHT ZOO.

We started off with a show (amphitheater) where different animals were introduced (under dimmed lighting) and were given a quick insight as to their nature and habitat.

At one stage they put 3 dustbins on the dirt “stage” and then spread plastic bottles, cola cans, and paper cups around. Three animals came in but I didn't quite get their species but they were in the Weasel family.

Anyway, they each took their own bottle/can/cup and put them into the correct dustbins. This was a sort of message in “keep your planet clean” ... "if animals can do it, we can do it"

At one stage they took someone from the audience and introduced him to a huge snake ... a fully grown Python. The Python was then wrapped around his neck and boby and then all of a sudden all the lights went out (part of the show) ... there were a few screams from the audience but the guy wrapped in the Python kept his cool.

We finished off with the actual night safari. It took about 30 to 45 min and was really interesting (I was glad of the fact that it was cooler during the journey) … it has been really hot all day (and every day)

                         HOMEWARD JOURNEY:
I received an SMS from work Saturday morning warning me that my flight had been cancelled from SIN (Singapore) to BKK (Bangkok). I left for the Airport earlier that planned in order to see if I could find an alternative departure for Bangkok.

Luckily I left in time as there was a flight where I had 50 minutes to reach the gate. Made it in good time.

But … as I arrived well ahead of time in BKK that meant that I had to wait 7 hours for my flight to CPH (Copenhagen). Although the new airport is a “shopper’s paradise” … it wasn't really me and then 7 hours is a long time.b The flight BKK / CPH took 12 hours.

The flight left on time and arrived CPH on time. I took the intercity connection (train) from CPH to Esbjerg which took 3 hours … good trip … DSB was on time.

I arrived at our summer house around 14:30 hrs on the Sunday. Went in for a rest at 16:00 hrs and first woke up at 09:30 the next morning … must be getting old (no comments please).

To round this trip off, I would like to express my thanks to Rene and his Family – Susanne, Ronja, and Thorbjørn for taking the time and showing me around Singapore ….

DUCK TOURS & DOWNTOWN SINGAPORE

After work we drove out to Tower 5 where we bought tickets for Singapore's DUCK TOUR .... yes Duck Tour" It was an amphibious vehicle that drove on land and sailed on water. The below photos are from the trip.

On our way into the water ...

In the water ...

2 water rats ... (hehe)
We sailed past a huge Hotel/Casino and the weird construction on the top is actually gardens and pools for the guests to wonder and relax in.

If you look carefully on the top, thoes are fully grown palm trees
so that should give you an idea as to the size of the building.

The we sailed past another MERLION

On the way back we had a fantastic view of the Singapore sykline

Day 3 - Singapore Flyer and Arab Street

Day 3 was a normal working day from 0800 to 1800 hrs.

Remember that last time I explained about this little oblong box that all car had to have … well here’s a photo. The funny thing was that I couldn't stop laughing at Rene because on the way to the Singapore Flyer he took a wrong turning quite a few times and unfortunately this was in the area where there were toll roads … so we drove back and forth and Rene’s scanner box was beeping all the time and eve time it beeped cost him about SG $ 3,00 (DKK 12,00) … but we got there eventually.

The Gadget ... bip -bip -bip

OK … the Singapore Flyer. Rene and his family to me to the Singapore Flyer which is Singapore’s answer to the London Eye in the UK. It was just like boarding an aircraft as we were given a boarding pass and had to go through security. It was an absolutely fantastic trip which took exactly 30 minutes. And I can tell you … Singapore by night is something to see. Hope that the following pictures I took will give you a good impression.

One thing I noticed when nearly at the top was a huge floodlit area. I was told that this was Singapore’s Golf Club and that you played golf by night. Cool.

Golf by night .... cool

After the Singapore Flyer I was taken to Arab Street in Kampong Glam. This is one of Singapore’s main tourist attractions where you can see the old colonial buildings from the British Colony times. A lot of these buildings were now restaurants. We ate at a Moroccan Restaurant where we started with mint tea and I had a Chicken Briani for the main course and Rene had a Lamb Briani. The briani was nice and spicy … just right.

Just up the street from where we ate was a Mosque (predominantly Muslim area) where prayers were being held … we tried to get in and have a look (visitors were allowed) but we were told that it was closed.

Drove back to the hotel around 2230 hrs.

Paragraphs from a tourist brochure:

First-time visitors to Singapore are in for a pleasant surprise. The city-state is spotlessly clean (think an Asian Zurich) and well organized with lots of great shopping with regular sales, great public transport, an enormous choice of dining out, extensive leisure and entertainment facilities and good security.

The city-state also has distinctive areas - each with its own traits and attractions. Orchard Road is well known for its shopping; Chinatown for its dining-out possibilities; Little India for its distinctiveness, and Sentosa Island for its leisure and fun opportunities. Even though Singapore is relatively small, it's jam-packed with areas waiting to be explored

And last but not least ...... Yeha Astrid ...
